Introducing: Tiny Pots - Baby & Big Kid Recipes

    Published: Jul 8, 2017 by Alica · 3 Comments

Alicas Pepperpot - Tiny Pots baby and kid food

It's been a long-time goal to start a baby and kid food section on my site, in hopes of sharing tips with new parents on how to, not only make and store homemade food for their kids, but also discuss the challenges and successes of raising children. I'm so happy to finally introduce, Tiny Pots, a brand new category on alicaspepperpot.com! This new section is very dear to me as I will be sharing my personal stories on motherhood and recipes my kids actually enjoy eating. My goal is to have a place where we can collaborate and discuss strategies on providing healthy and fun recipes for our little ones.

How will Tiny Pots be different from other baby/kid food sites?

Don't worry, I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel here. There are tons of amazing baby and kid food websites out there, which I also plan to share with you all. Tiny Pots is different in that it will incorporate Caribbean ingredients and recipes I grew up eating, in addition to regular foods kids enjoy. In keeping with the goal of preserving my food heritage, I wanted to start by introducing my kids to Caribbean flavors. When both of my boys were very young, my grandmother encouraged me to give them a taste of everything I cooked. Best thing I've ever done. Soon enough, I realized how much easier it was to puree what I made for dinner instead of making two different meals for each little guy in my home. If we were having stewed squash with rice for dinner, then so were my boys, and they LOVED it (I, of course, omitted the hot pepper and salt). They relished the flavors, as Caribbean/West Indian food is uniquely tasty and delectable. I know many parents who already do this, but if you are a mom who doesn't know where to start, I hope these recipes and meal ideas will help encourage you in the kitchen!

What to Expect from Tiny Pots

    • Two sub-categories under Tiny Pots:
      • Recipes: Here you will find recipes for little ones from infancy to big kid. Including purees, finger food, fun-to-make foods, and general meal ideas.
      • Notes on Parenthood: This category will focus more on my experience as a mom of two kids under age 4. I will be sharing commentary on my struggles as a parent, but also strategies that have helped me be successful.
    • Recipe features from other parents and caregivers.
    • One new post each week.
    • Giveaways and product reviews.

Since relaunching this site two months ago, I have felt very inspired and positive about every new step. I want to sincerely thank all of you who read and support this blog. It is your comments, emails, and kind gestures that encourage me to keep blogging. The first post in this category will be up on Tuesday morning!

I have a baby and am about to start introducing her to foods! She is half guyanese and half jamaican so it is important to me that she is able to eat caribbeans foods from a young age! I am excited about Tiny Pots!

Hi Nadiya! What a fun age! I hope you enjoy the recipes as well. I plan on sharing recipes with Caribbean ingredients (fruits and vegetables) as well as regular foods kids enjoy. Thanks for your comment :).
